After many years with my iPhone SE2, I finally upgraded to an iPhone 16 pro. The main reason was the 120Hz display refresh rate, otherwise I would have continued with my SE2.

What has me bummed is the game refresh rate being stuck at 60Hz instead of 120Hz.

But is that a choice the gamemaker has made or are all games capped on 60hz?

I did a web search and saw many comments about games being limited to 60Hz. One person said they could find only one game that played at 120Hz. But the game I play does 120Hz on Android. So, I have an email into game support asking about it.

This is because the developers decided that a refresh rate above 60 Hz wasn’t worth the extra effort to modify their existing games. Some popular games like Genshin Impact are 120 Hz but it’s likely the studio has a significant budget. High refresh rates on iPhone have only been around for a little over three years. Over time more games will support it. If you enjoy playing a specific game perhaps contact the developer and request they update it.

There are still apps that revert to 60hz- it’s developer dependent, not Apple’s decision. ProMotion is awesome.
