I saw the initial screenshots of an entirely transparent base os and was truly excited. I never tried the betas, but the launch version is nothing more than Big Sur Mk II. Its probably what monterey could have been.
Everything works really. On my intel 16 inch i9 macbook pro (running in non retina mode and only 4cpus 8 threads) it flies like every prior release.
- Somewhat disappointed that people made them turn the full transparency off.
- The menubar isn't actually transparent like you'd wish, its still territorial and simply takes a photo of the current background and puts it there.
- The initial impression is a massive, massive blast of "this is so un macos". It doesnt feel apple, it doesn't feel mac.
- Then that settles down into its basically big sur version 2.
- Universal control still works to older macs.
- The tv app refresh is.... err.
- The journal app might be interesting.
- Why did they make the apps app look like spotlight? Seems a bit redundant, why not make the default mode of spotlight the apps?
- Without color, its objectively harder to distinguish between icons.
- Looks like they broke spatial audio playback via laptop speakers for the tv app again. Watch a dolby atmos movie on ventura you'll see what i mean.
Yeah i'll keep it. Seems well behaved otherwise
EDIT: Yep, just confirmed tv app audio for paid purchases doesn't use the full spatial audio again. Also you can feel the weight of the bloat removed from the os back in ventura. Can vouch that 13.7.7 is a steallar optimized gold class patch and is a fine forever os.
