The difference?
Better Touch Tool.
I'm an Adobe power user, and use mostly keystrokes. But Im not as proficient in keystrokes in some apps in the Adobe suite, and find myself sometimes mousing the top menu for advanced commands.
And I hate using right click on a laptop, even with trackpad hot corners or double tap.
No longer! With BTT, I can execute moderately used but important commands with the touch of a button, speeding up my workflow.
Now, I can't imagine buying a new Mac Pro next year with a magic keyboard and no Touch Bar. Can't believe I'm saying that!
MacOS obviously should have shipped with the level of configuration BTT offers. Because Apple half- assed software for the Touch Bar (at least up until now), Im hoping they don't discontinue it.
