An Island in the Salish Sea
As reported in the Montreal Gazette:
PARIS — Canadians have a "better life" than anyone in the western world except — by a narrow margin — Australians, according to a new analysis released Tuesday.

Canada scored at or near the top in such areas as housing, education, health and life satisfaction, among 34 major industrialized countries.

Apparently our scores were dragged down in the "governance" section. Our voter turnout ranks 60% (compared to OECD average of 72%) and by how difficult it is use the "access to information" mechanisms (I'm looking at you Mr Harper).

Congratulations to our fellow Commonwealth cousins!

I have some friends who are now starting to spend 6 months here, and then 6 months in Oz. Best of both worlds. Although bizarrely they are spending winters here/there this year. But that's due to the timing of a new grandchild.

Everybody loves Aussies and Canadians, at least, that's my impression.

Wish I was aussie.

Congratulations to our fellow Commonwealth cousins!

Thank you! Would love to see your country too if I had the money. Holidayed once in the States and had a great time, but it was nice to come home again.

But in many ways, the best place to live is wherever the people you love are. (Sorry, I'm in one of those mushy kind of moods I guess!)

Canadians have always reminded me of New Zealanders. Both more liberal and relaxed than their larger neighbours.

Our problem is essentially the same as the US- News Ltd and its audience demographic.
