Western Digital 80GB Passport-Odd Issues

Hello everyone,
My mom recently bought a WD Passport drive to use for backup. When I plug it into her USB hub, the hub turns off. When I plug it into a USB port on the back of her G4 Mac Mini, the other port stops working. For some reason, this drive just temporarily stops all other ports from functioning. Is there any way I could fix this (other than calling WD)?

The Passport is bus powered so probably the reason the hub shuts off is because all of the power going to it is being drawn by the Passport. I don't know why the rest of the ports on the back wouldn't work though.

Yeah...
This drive certainly seems to have some issues. When I tried to plug it into my MacBook Pro, it (the computer) shut down.
