western digital harddrive-lost ALL files

can someone please offer me some advice?

I have an imac hooked upto a western digital 320gb external harddrive and for some reason i have managed to delete all the files from the harddrive (i am far from a computer whizz as this shows!!)

anyone with any advice on how to restore these files from the harddrive would be appreciated ! ive heard about restore websites but dont know which will be best, if at all, and also have a friend who had a similar problem and had to get it sent off and restored which cost almost £500

Unplug that hard drive NOW! If you put anything on it, then it will become impossible to recover anything! There is an app called FileSalvage, but I've never used it before.
