What's the verdict - any good?
Runs RAID, but can it also work as two separate drives..? (surely)

Am thinking about getting the 1TB model. Any comments appreciated.

Software raid ?

If you are interested in raid make sure you understand whether its software or hardware raid software can be a hog on the system i believe while hardware raid is built in and will run independently. I had a bad experience with western digital previously so personally i would avoid others however have had better luck. If its stripe raid if one drive fails everything is gone i believe while mirror raid is more bulletproof so adding a new drive will rebuild the lost one. Also take a look at the newertech guardian maximus from owc when deciding i'm very happy so far with them !

OK so far

I got a WD WEII (1TB) the other weekend to store my movies and backups on.

Direct connection via RJ45 along with the Mini, bit disappointed that it's as slow as molasses when copying data across. 200GB took about 17 hours !

I configured VLC to have a 5 second cache and then it's fine.
Using it in a none RAID configuration, but have data also backed up on another external drive (you can't have too much redundancy !!!)
