The last upgrade of my MBP consisted of extracting the 320GB HD from a Western Digital Passport and exchanging with my stock hard drive. I did this because on sale, the external drive was cheaper than buying retail/OEM drive alone. And I inserted my stock hard drive to the Passport case to use as backup.
This worked well. So yesterday I bought the new WD 500GB passport from Best Buy for $110 with plans to exchange the hard drive again. The case was little different but I was able to pry it open without issues.
BUT, the drive inside the passport now is different!!! It has an integrated USB header (i.e. the backpanel circuit board extends further out compared to a normal sATA 2.5 inch drive). It cannot be transplanted as an internal sATA drive.
Really sucks. I guess WD decided to close this route of upgrade. I don't know why they would do that.
Anyways, FWIW.
