So Im getting a retina Pro for college. Either getting the 128 model or 256 model. If I get the 128 model, I would think I would need an external. Costco is having a sale, a 1.5 TB seagate external for 70.

So Should I get the 128 model plus the external or just the 256 model? My Pro right now is the 160 model but I'm guessing most of the space or at least 20 gigs is OS space ( I have Leopard through Yosemite on here)

I think my big thing about the 128 model is I don't want to pay more for a smaller base HD

128 is a terrible idea today, and four years from now it will be even worse. It just isn't enough storage, and you can't upgrade later. 256 may not be enough either, but at least it's a better start. Given the price of flash memory these days, it's almost criminal that Apple is putting such a paltry amount of storage in such an expensive machine.

Amazingly Yosemite is only 5.67GB.

More importantly it'll be down to future storage and the likes of 4K video files etc will mean more is always better. I would say go for the 256Gb one myself. However as soon as you can afford it I'd get an external with at least 1TB to do time machine backups and store archived files.
