In my mind, no system is complete without these nifty side-apps.
-Synergy (http://synergy.wincent.com/) -- iTunes remote and more
-GmailStatus (http://homepage.mac.com/carsten.guenther/GmailStatus/) -- for checking gmail
-PowerController (http://www.keakaj.com/powermanager.htm) -- 'The best iTunes alarm clock for Mac OSX'
-MenuMeter (http://www.ragingmenace.com/software/menumeters/) -- for monitoring network (+ hard disk, cpu, etc.) status in--what else--the menu bar
-Quicksilver (http://quicksilver.blacktree.com/) -- I use the flashlight interface, and this application kicks, in a word, ass.
