Laptop setup:

  • Macbook Pro 13" (early 2011)
  • Core i5 (entry level)
  • factory-fit small HDD
  • Home-fit 8Gb RAM

After about 10 mins last night (remove and replace HDD) and another 45 mins (clean install of OS and basic apps) I now have:

Home-fit WD 750Gb 7200RPM Scorpio Black HDD

And what a difference:
  • Laptop seems to have sprung to live
  • apps load quicker
  • runs quieter

Now ready for Lion

Highly recommended HDD

Cheers

That's because the HDD rotation speed and density are both higher.

I guarantee if you got a solid state drive you would "highly recommend" that even more. And your computer would thank you with superfast boot, sleep, shutdown, and program start ups!

But the drive you put in is a very solid (lame pun) hard disk.

Scorpio Blacks are a particular favourite of mine. I mean, the harddisk, of course.

That's one reason i got it! but i really wasn't expecting to notice such a pleasant improvement in performance!

As for SSD, too pricy and too small at the moment for my hobby needs. but maybe one day...

WD Scorpio Black will do for me for quite some time me thinks...
