For whatever reason when I first got the 5s, turning on reduce motion makes the phone run smoother. Opening and closing apps is much snappier. Noticed it last night when I was looking for new ways to increase battery life and I remember an article saying switching it on will help a bit.

But I will miss the backround and apps moving around with the phone

iOS runs smoother, but forget about a tangible gain in battery life whit reduced motion on.

Is this because you're on 7.03/7.04? because I am still on 7.0 In case of a jailbreak release. Reduce Motion does absolutely nothing for me. On or off it's the same animation.

On 7.0 all reduce motion does is remove the paralax effect on wallpapers. From 7.0.3 it does that but also changes the zooming animations when opening folders etc to a fade type animation and no zooming at all.

However you cant have paralax effects with zooming...its both or neither.

might not be a huge difference but there are articles reporting that it helps along with other certain settings. I've been averaging 5.5 hours of use so i'll see if this cycle increases or not

Well I switched it on after I updated to 7.0.4

Thanks, actually just wanted to know if its worth the update.

Just adding my $.02, I've had Parallax enabled since I got my 5s and I've gotten close to 9 hours with a single charge. Some days it'll only reach 7-8, but still...

Not sure if it'll add much by turning it off, but I could be wrong. For me, I'm happy with what I'm getting, so I keep it on.

Just update. There has never, and likely won't be a jailbreak for a non-current iOS. Not to mention that they have already said that up to 7.0.4 have not closed any security holes they have been watching.

9 hours? jealous

had the 5s since launch and the most I've had was 7. much better than the 4 I was getting with the 4s but I still would like to get what you get

Yeah, but some days are better than others. I know signal strength plays a big part. LTE is pretty good where I work and I'm mainly on Wi-Fi when I get home. It varies, though. I've had heavy use today and I'll probably only get 7.

Oke... So I updated to 7.04 and wow... the Reduce Motion option now literally makes iOS 7 faster than iOS 6. Why the hell wasn't this done to begin with?

Because not everyone is in such a hurry that they can't wait .5 seconds for an animation ;)

very true. wifi at work is beyond weak, barely 2mbps so I'm sure the battery goes quicker in 8 hours here than 8 hours home where it's at 15mbps

So with every iOS version we either gain animation speed or it's the same as the previous version, and now it's suddenly unreasonable to expect the same animation speed with a phone that possesses way more power? For a company that claims the "user experience" is their top priority, this definitely doesn't make it seem like it.

it's not even that though. It is much more enjoyable to use, everything opens and closes instantly now.

I will be completely honest. I've been an iOS user since iOS 2. Formula 1 and basketball are my favorite sports (both involve speed), I'm a runner, and deal with fast-paced financial industry. I need to do things quickly on my iPhone, and I do not notice a difference between iOS 6 and iOS 7. I'm not saying there isn't one, but I use my phone heavily throughout the day and do not feel at all bothered by the animations nor their speed. I'm not saying it's great they they "slowed" it down at all, just that I use my phone hours per day and I don't see what all the fuss is about.

I don't even know to respond to that lol but for me ios6 on 4s to ios7 on 5s is a world of difference in every aspect and like you I'm heavy on my phone through out the day

I can compare it to a labtop using 512MB of ram to one using 2GB

I'll be completely honest with you aswell then, I didn't notice it at first either... but after using it for a while I noticed that whenever I unlocked my screen I started swiping because I thought the display was ready for use, but I literally had to wait for the animation was ready. Somehow this went unnoticed to first couple of times. Then I turned on the Reduce Motion and it was all gone in 1 toggle I can honestly say that it makes my use of the phone ridiculously faster.

Well I switched it on after I updated to 7.0.4

Most of those articles are just bs ...

Sure, if you disable almost everything like some web sites suggest, your are going to gain half an hour of usage time, but what's the meaning of have new features if you cannot use them ?

In my experience the only real thing that make a difference is SIGNAL STRENGTH. With iOS 7, more than iOS 6, if you are in a zone with a poor network coverage your battery drains very quickly.
Where I live, with frequent swap between 3G and edge, I can't reach 5 hours !
In my hometown, with strong 3G everywhere, I can easily reach 7 hours and half, with same usage pattern.
