You know how your email confirming your reservation tomorrow says come in "any time" on Friday and happily receive your new iPhone, then at the bottom it says in fine print "Does not guarantee iPhone". Yeah, well I just found out why. A person from Apple store told me that the phones don't even have names attached to them at all. What a reservation does is simply adds that phone to the store's stock on top of the inventory they had already planned to receive. They'll have two shipments of phones: the shipment they had already planned to get and sell, then the reserved phones that will start being snapped up when they run out of the initial inventory. So if you "reserved" one, I would advise not to do it when you get off work or something.
