Hey,

I am thinking of contributing to MacRumors but want a little more detail of what I actually get, I here some about "private forums" but is it really anything that great?

I'm basically looking for a more detailed list of advantages of contributing.

Thanks for answers

PS: I'm aware of the FAQ

You get the warm, fuzzy feeling that we each get knowing that we've helped out our favourite website.

You're not going to get much more info than what's in the FAQ. If you expect anything more than simply supporting the community, there's a good chance you'll be disappointed.

Fuzzy feelings are nice.

but what's in the private forum?

We don't mean to be unhelpful, but part of the benefit of the private forum area is that the discussions there aren't discussed elsewhere. But perhaps a thought experiment will help: If you were among a more private group of MacRumors members, what would you want to talk about? Chances are that's something they'd want to talk about too!

Site income comes from both ads and from paid memberships. Just as you get something from PBS for donating during the pledge drive, we give you a few goodies in return for paid membership as a small way to show our appreciation. Avoiding some of the ads, getting to have a special user title, and getting to talk to the other paid members out of the public forums are benefits some members appreciate.

As the FAQ says, you can also support MacRumors in other ways: by registering, participating in discussions and activities, and helping other members, by buying from our sponsors, and by letting others know about MacRumors.

As others have said you get out of it, exactly what you put in.

I can testify that I have received so much more from my membership here this year than I could quantify in a $$ amount.

gotcha, is there anyway to get your title (ie: 601) and have some kind of indication that you have contributed, like MacRumors 601 (Contributer)

FAQ said:
For $25/year, you receive the following benefits:

The satisfaction of knowing you are helping MacRumors (the primary reason to contribute)
Access to a private forum
Removal of most ads on MacRumors.com and Forums.MacRumors.com
A Demi-God, Demi-Goddess, or Contributor user title, if you want it

i read that as 'we don't mean to be helpful'
I didn't mean my 'we don't mean to be unhelpful' to appear to be 'we don't mean to be helpful' if I could help it.

It's true that as a paid member you can have a post-based user title or one of the fixed alternative choices, but not both at once. Changing that has been suggested before, and maybe we'll do that some day. There are no plans for an imminent change.
