they should program the iphone to once you are in a starbucks and the logo appears, you will click on the starbucks logo and be able to purchase your coffee through your iphone which will charge to your phone bill.

possible?

I could handle that, but I am dating one of the Baristas and get free coffee anyway. :D:p

Yes, it is possible, however is patented by me and an old friend.

Would make my day to see something come from it.

Never was able to get any of the phone companies to go ahead with it.

I read recently (here) that you can order from your laptop in some Starbucks now...should work from iPods/iPhones...

The real trick will be having a option to allow your iTouch/iPhone to alert you when in proximity to a StarBucks of specials just for you - discounts - because you have a profile with them or they have a daily special.

It should be an option only.

And then lets see how many other stores come on line with similar options - Music stores especially. But also major clothes lines (pun intended), coke/pepsi machines, crispy cremes ;) etc

Just what I want -- someone knowing where I am by virtue of what music and coffee I want to buy.

How long before we hear about a guy robbing a starbucks but is busted because cops subpoenaed itunes records and then interrogated and got DNA samples from everyone whose itunes account showed a hit at that store near the time of the robbery.

Not only possible but a killer idea really!

is it that big an inconvenience to talk to a human being?
No, I do not think it was about interaction. I believe it is about us living in a world of convenience. I am not a fan of Starbucks but if I want coffee there are about 10 Starbucks that I can drive to before I hit the one and only Peet's Coffee across town. I prefer Peet's then Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf. Starbucks is a necessary evil. I also have two I can walk to in under 5 minutes right @ work. The point is, if I can order before I get there or while I am walking that would kick ass. The coffee can be sitting on the counter when I walk in, I can grab, tip, and walk out. Yes I tip--I'm a jackass like that. Of course that idea takes the OPs idea slightly further, but still. Now if I can get within a certain distance of the shop and then order that is still nice. Again, not about interaction, just about convenience.

Now if I could schedule an order for a certain day at a certain time I would certainly find a reason to need an iPhone...well kind of. I doubt I'd buy an iPhone just because of that. Regardless, it is a nice idea.

But the Starbucks app shows up when you are very near to a Starbucks so....

Dang, great idea... you should have sold that to Starbucks! LOL

Are you serious? If so, it would show exactly what is wrong with the patent system as it now exists.

Isnt that what your tinfoil hat is for?

I don't think it would replace talking to a human. You're just using your phone to pay for the coffee - so it's replacing your wallet.

"oh I forgot my wallet in the car. Oh, wait... here, do you accept iPhone payment?"

Thats a rediculous apple idea and a waste of application IMO.
I rather not even have that icon on my Iphone if possible.
Is it possible to not install that application but still update the rest of the firmware? I hope so, I hate coffee and never go to starbucks.
Im sure many others will not care out it either.

that wouldn't be too bad if it worked like that

I think it's quite useless, if you are too anti-social to go up and order it, that's quite sad, honestly. The only good suggestion you made was to charge it on your AT&T bill.

maybe we can all create an app to spam orders to all the starbucks around the world, and crash their intarwebs, thus allowing us to receive free coffee for waiting so long on our orders... nah...
