Thought I'd find out what Apps people are hoping for or looking forward to for their iPod touch?

My wish-list would include:

  • Slingbox client
  • Something to allow browsing of AFP or SMB shared folders
  • An eBook reader
  • A lightweight media browser which works on a folder of files (fits in with the shared folder support above)
  • Blogging software

I'm kind of just keep my mind open to whatever the App Store will bring, which is hopefully a little bit of everything. But most definetly, I want to see an IM App.

About what percent of the Apps will require WiFi? I know no one really knows but i just want your opinion.

yeah, IM is a good one.

As for wifi being required, I reckon it'll be utilised in quite a large portion of the apps. However, I trust developers are smart enough to implement good offline support so the apps works seamlessly with or without a connection (where possible). For example a blogging app should work similarly to Mail so that posts are stored, then published when possible.

Or, in the case of an IM app, it could offer to send a message via email (to be sent when in range of an access point)

We've already seen an AIM client, but i'm really hoping for an MSN messenger app, since most people I know use that.

We need some creative hardware developers before a few of my idea can be realized but here they are:

- iTunes Remote (Apple to the rescue)
- Home Automation Remote (couple in the works that I know of)
- Home Cam Monitoring (for people with cameras round the house/property)
- IR Solution for universal remote abilities (things are in the works)
- Bedside alarm clock with music on wake? (background app issues?)
- Caller ID for 'regular house phone' (background app issues?)
- VoIP client (*) yea we would need a mic/speaker add-on so not realistic but I can dream

Edit:

Would appear as if http://touchmods.wordpress.com/ has been hard at work doing all kinds of neat hardware hacks for the touch including mic and BT (they even have a gps project underway).

Personally, I hope Google will deliver some new apps and update some of the existing ones to include the latest features, etc. For example, the current maps at maps.google.com have the "terrain" feature which is missing in the current Google map app for the iPhone/touch. I'd be wonderful to be able to create a custom Google map for use w/the special iPhone/touch Google map app as well...

Google mobile for the iPhone/touch (http://www.google.com/mobile/apple/) has some interesting new mobile apps available but some work (fully or partially) and some don't work at all. I do prefer the Google mobile search over the default Google (non mobile) search that Safari currently uses as the default. -- the Google mobile ver. of search wraps nicely to the touch's small screen.

i wanna see a better weather app. one with live radar, watches/warnings, chance of rain, live news reports (like the MLB thing but with weather), etc.

A (better) weather app is certainly needed... at least tell me the chance of precipitation for Pete's sake! ;)

Meanwhile, until there's something better designed specifically for small screen, I've been using Doppler Radar and Severe Weather Alerts Gadget which is a Google mini app "gadget" which can be added to my iGoogle page. It (at least) provides doppler map, short term forecast and warning/watches. The iGoogle pages format to the small screen fairly well, but ther are (currently at least) technical glitches that show up when using it w/the touch...

Is there a google talk one yet? Would like that and one for AIM.

I dunno, I just got my touch, so I am new to the worlds of 3rd party apps.

Bejeweled. It is, in my opinion, the best game currently available for the Touch (not including Jailbreaking). It would be nice to have the game whenever I want. Yes, I know I can load the app before I go out, but it would be nice to just have unrestricted access to it whenever I want.

  • AIM,
  • Super Monkey Ball
  • Apple's remote App
  • Other Apps that are going to be released by :apple: through the App Store
  • Sketches
  • Band
  • Other cool games
  • Other free useful applications

A ssh client would be nice. I would like to to be able to connect to my servers at work at the UNIX prompt when I can't get back home easily. I hope it isn't too expensive if it is available. I am not even sure if the API will make that possible.

I also would like to play World of Warcraft on it. Todo and Note sync should be part of Mobile Me but it looks like it will have to be done by third party developers.

I'd really like to see a proper 'To Do List' application that links through 'mobileMe' to my other products. Notes just doesn't cut it!

A version of Adium for the iPod Touch wouldn't go a miss either! :D

I would like

something where I could buy tv shows straight from. My iPod

a money manager
