Hey guys.

1. What apps should I download to make sure everything runs smooth. (Ex. Flash Player, Flip4Mac)

2. What everyday simple apps just for basic computing do you recommend?

Thanks guys!

Hard to guess what your needs are, as there is no real definition of "basic computing." That being said, pretty much everything 90% of folks will need come included with a Mac. Anything else can be d/l'd as the need arises (you browse to a site that needs a plug-in, d/l it and keep moving).

Other than iWork as an added purchase (only the trial is included), there's no real "must-have" to get one going.

for MY everyday use:
-firefox
-VLC
-httpmail plug in (waiting for leo version)
-Azureus
-iTunes
-Adium
-acquisition
-schoolhouse
-word(MS)

Grr... I did purchase iWork with Leopard, did an erase/install of 10.3 and guess what, no more iPhoto!! Why was iPhoto on 10.3 and not on 10.5?

Anyway, what PLUG-IN's should I download?

i love neo office. also perian is a good program that will help run almost any video.

for web surfing OS X includes flash player and quicktime internet plugins. i would suggest flip4mac it includes wmv quicktime components and internet plugins. i would also suggest getting perian as it plays 90% of todays media within quicktime

yep it's definitely i nice addition it was one of the first things i installed on my new MacBook.

I reckon these are good for everybody with a mac, whatever you're donig with it

Flip4Mac
Perian
VLC
Adium
Aurora

There are a few more everyday apps for me but they're a bit specialised

The first apps installed on any mac either at home or work (other than iLife) are:

Launchbar
Omniweb
TextWrangler (unless it's my machine in which case it gets TextMate)
NeoOffice

Hey, don't listen to all these nooblets that say to use Firefox. Opera is way better. Go with Opera. :D

Also, VLC is a good media player if you want good compatability with most file types in one program.
