I did a clean Leopard install, and now I have all these new folders. What are they? They seem to add a lot of clutter

They are the folders that are always there containing the Unix part of the OS. They have been there in every OSX release. Normally they are hidden in the Finder, for some reason they are not on your install...

how do I make them hidden folders? I tried cocktail, it didn't work

I tried a program that is supposed to hide files, but it said that my permissions of the parent folder wouldn't allow it. What can I do??

Fixed it. Apparently its a problem other people have faced with a fresh install
