What are some good hard/soft cases?

probably the best case I’ve ever had was a blue case for my iPhone 6 that i bought at the mall at a stand for $20. Probably was worth half of that but it was great. The back was hard plastic but the sides were this “gooey” “squishy” material that had small bumps for easy grip. The great thing is that it actually bounced when i dropped it and i dropped it many times. I’m not sure if there’s a name for this but I’m looking for a similar case for my 8+.

I don’t want an Otterbox but just something to protect the back with this material. I don’t like the hard cases and the all soft cases just don’t have a good feel to them. Any suggestions?
 
Nomad makes some very nice hybrid leather cases, but this one looks interesting. I believe the back is Polycarbonate and the sides are a softer TPU. A little more than 20 bucks though.

Maybe someone who has actually has one can chime in?

That being said, some of my favorite cases have been cheap mall or eBay ones that I can never find for my next phone...

Leather case from the Apple Store. I had one for my 8 and got one for my X. I like the grip it provides and the subtle Apple logo on the back.
 
I got the Silk brand one piece card holder case in Amazon - love it. I haven't carried a wallet in months. I've only had a couple easy drops, so I can't say much about the protection other than it isn't broken.
