I'm looking for the ability from time to time to display more on the screen than the standard pixel-doubled 1152x770.

What are the alternative scaled resolutions for the Macbook?

Some of the applications I use (e.g. Garmin Mapsource running under Parallels Desktop) don't display sufficient detail at low resolutions.

From the Apple product page:

2304-by-1440 resolution at 226 pixels per inch with support for millions of colors
16:10 aspect ratio
Supported scaled resolutions:
1440 by 900
1280 by 800
1024 by 640

Yep. The 1280x800 is what it is set to by default. You can select the one lower, and the one higher in settings. To set the display to any other resolution Han these three (including full 2304x1440), you'll need a third party software solution.

I'm happy at 1440x900. Much smaller than that and I'll need a new prescription... ;) or in this case maybe this one is more appropriate:  <- wearing eyeglasses

From left to right, the scaled resolutions in System Preferences on the rMB are:

1024x640
1152x720
1280x800 (Default)
1440x900

Good work. At the risk of asking potentially stupid questions, why does Apple list only three, including the default setting?

My guess is because the list is entitled "Supported scaled resolutions" while 1152x720 HiDPI is not scaled but native and can be assumed from the actual resolution given.
