Hello, I am a touch typist. I went to two stores to try out various laptops again. While the keyboard of those Windows laptops I tried were very comfortable and I got no typing mistake, I had lots of typing mistakes when I typed on the MBP 2018. In the worst case, several mistakes on one line. Mostly I typed the letter adjacent to the desired ones. What are the causes? I don’t know if I will adapt if I get the MBP 2018.

Ok while we are at it - someone explain me this. I too went to a store and tried typing on a 2017 13" MBP and a 2017 15" MBP. My observation I found the 13" much easier to type on, and I made more mistakes on the 15" - even though they have the same dimensions. WHHY??????!!!!!!

Did you use the same software? One might have autocorrection on. Did you look at the screen or the keyboard? Did you try the 15" first? Perhaps less mistakes due to adaptations?
[doublepost=1532367516][/doublepost]While the trackpad on the 15"is larger, is the keyboard on the 13" the same as the 15"’s?

Over sensitivity. This causes a false response.

Oh... I mean the typist, not the keyboard. I find when I am paying more attention to my keyboarding, I make more erors.

Pages on both of them. Went back and forth a few times. I can touch type but on strange keyboard need to look at keys more than usual. Keys appear to have same dimensions. Possibly the comedy oversized trackpad of the 15" was throwing my hand placement off

The keyboard is different from any other keyboard and as such you need to give it time for you to adjust.

Are the typos due to different key cap size or shorter key travel?

I bet it is the size of the laptop when it comes to wrist placement on the front edge, it's a little different in specs and that can make a big difference in how your comfort level works. I gave my 2013 13" rMBP to my wife when I got a 15" and was pretty bummed by how many more typos I make on the 15.

I forgot to mention not only more typos but also decrease in typing speed.

I am on the fence between MBP and Lenovo Yoga 920, Carbon X1, Thinkpad T480 and MateBook X Pro. The keyboard of the rest are very comfortable and easy to type on. Unfortunately, they don’t run Mac OS. Can’t find successful story on Hackintoshing any of them.

Keyboard seems good to me. I did two long reports on my new MBPro 15 and coming from a Thinkpad P51, I had no more typing errors than usual. After a few hours my fingers were clicking away.

Maybe a bit more time and the OP will get used to it.

So, rather than going for a Windows laptop and try to Hackintish it, just go ahead and special order a BTO MBP (I need 1TB and the only 1TB configuration Apple is selling in stores is the one that comes with i9. I think it is on purpose to make people who can’t wait for BTO to buy), try the keyboard as much as possible for two weeks and see how it goes?

I have a small BT foldable keyboard but it is kind of ricidious to carry it with such an expensive MBP all the time.

I need 16GB and 1TB. 13"or 15" base CPU. Which has better battery life?

I have a very similar mindset except I'm debating a Dell XPS with Ubuntu. It can be made work but is a bit hacky and not all hardware works. The keyboard is very nice however :)

I also plan to install Windows and Ubuntu to make them run natively.

The only thing holding me back from the Dell is that I'm currently doing stuff on my win10 desktop and windows is driving me freaking nuts

Why Windows is driving you nuts?

The MBP keyboard is driving me nuts.

Windows runs very well on the 2018 MBPro.

I recall reading a thread that there was an issue betwwn Bootcamp and Windows. That has been fixed?

Ugh trying to install some development tools and it has to update 4 million things which means i have to install other stuff..blah blah. It just seems harder than on mac. But honestly windows always drives me nuts even if editing Word. I would adjust to the keyboard honestly - my main issue with the macs now is the outrageous price for a 1TB SSD

I compared the prices. At least for educational pricing, it costs less to upgrade to 1TB on a 13" than on a 15". Can’t understand this.

Are SSDs for the 13" the same as those for the 15"?

I hope so. Apple does not usually have all the drivers ready when a MBPro, it only took them a few days.

I installed Windows 10 Pro via BootCamp on Friday night and put it though the paces this weekend . . . not a single glitch. Runs AutoCad, Photoshop, Quickbooks Pro and full office perfectly.

I am a happy camper with the new keyboard, no problems.

Huh just checked on full prices where I am. To go from 256Gb to 1TB is €750 on 13" & €720 on 15"
but those prices are ridiculous

Thanks for your experience. I hope Ubuntu Linux will run well. There were issues with WiFi in 2017 models.

These keyboards do take a little getting used to. The Key Travel definitely makes a difference. Your muscle memory has you used to typing on a "normal" keyboard where your fingers are used to pushing further down. Now you trick your brain and probably under compensate how far your finger is pushing.

Its like when you go from an iPhone 4 to an iPhone 8 Plus. The 4 looked so normal for so long, and the Plus looks enormous at first. Then you get used to it pretty quick.....go back to the iPhone 4 and your perception changes to how how tiny that phone is.

Type on the keyboard for a day or 2 and you get surprised how quick you get used to it.

I was walking around a public library checking what people are using. When I was nearby a guy, I heard freaky noisy keyboard. When I looked, he was using that bloody butterfly keyboard.
