What are the chances of the upcoming (WWDC) M1 MacBook Pro getting Face ID?

Love everything about my current M1 MacBook Pro, except for Touch ID, it'll work fine for a week, then I'll have to re scan my fingers, tried re scanning the same finger twice, still had to re scan my finger again after a week. 🥺

Is it possible for apple to fit Face ID in the upcoming MacBook Pro? or is the chassis too thin?

If it has Face ID, it'll be a day one purchase for me. 😃📸💻

What about when you're not wearing your Apple Watch at home? not a great solution.
 
I wonder how many people would update to the latest Mac just for FaceID?

With COVID-19 I prefer TouchID. Android had it right by having it palced at the back where the Apple logo would be or the power button
 
Personally, I think touch ID makes more sense on a Mac.

The main reason has to do with UX.

With Touch ID:
Application prompts for authentication --> touches Touch ID button --> done

With Face ID:
Application prompts for authentication --> move your mouse to select "Use Face ID" --> done

You will always have to move your mouse to click on "Use Face ID" which is slightly more work than Face ID and requires more fine motor skills. The reason is that the authentication prompt could be a surprise for you or you actually changed your mind and want to cancel the action. MacOS will never automatically authenticate you using Face ID without explicit permission from you.

Got nothing against Touch ID, actually like it, but it doesn't work well for me, always having to re scan my fingers, Face ID on the other hand is flawless, works 100% of the time.

Can have both Touch ID and Face ID, leave Touch ID where it is on the keyboard and add Face ID if it's possible, win win for us customers.

This is it I think. They'd either have to give us a bump on those displays or make the lids thicker for just those components, which I can't really see them doing. But I hope to be pleasantly surprised.

No more M1 at WWDC...expect the more powerful SoC with support up to 64 gb ram and 4 tb/usb4 ports (the rumours says it will be called M1x)
Expect 1080p camera (not faceID), thanks to its new design where the lid is not that thin anymore and Apple can bring the imac facetime camera to the Mbp as well
But since the Mbp are expected to have touchID...that means there are 0 chances for faceId
 
Considering it is not on the new iMac which got a completely redesigned camera system, and they just introduced standalone keyboards with Touch ID? I'd say 0% chance.

It is truly inexplicable. Like unbelievable. I wish some of these people that get rare opportunities to interview people from Apple would actually ask these interesting questions.

Face ID is made for the Mac.
- You're always sitting right in front of the camera.
- There is plenty of space for the hardware.
- They are damn expensive enough to cover the cost.

Using Face ID on the Mac would be effortless. Instead we are saddled with awfully inferior Touch ID, and hit-or-miss Apple Watch authentication.

I have Touch ID and my Mac still wants me to enter my password for tons of things. It is embarrassing how badly they've implemented it. I had to turn it off for Auto Fill entirely because they made that UX as bad as it could possibly be.

what the hell?? i dont have your issues, in both Mojave and Big Sur
Are you having the T2 secure or the M1 Mbp

-Yes, faceId would work like windows hello in macs, even better...especially in the laptops and imacs
-No space for faceID..the lids are too thin..but again, apple is probably coming with a thicker lid now at WWDC to place the 1080p...so, if they have at least 5mm in thickness, yes, there will be plenty of space
- there are not so expensive..but yes, at that starting point of $1799 it should not be an issue

I don't buy that. There are plenty of ways they could make it happen.
