What are the chances that Apple will make a thinner/lighter
laptop under 2.5 pounds in the next 12 months or so?

Probably close to zero. They would need to use something such as carbon fiber on the ThinkPad X1. Apple is an aluminum company.

ooooh..... now they are an aluminum company? should have told my broker to buy more Apple stocks last week. :(

Apple increased battery life massively with the change to Apple silicon. I wouldn't be surprised to see a lighter Air with a smaller battery that still gives the battery life that was acceptable before. It would differentiate it more from the MacBook Pro. I'd be interested in a MacBook Air that was very light, and an OK, but not exceptional battery life.

What Apple gives they can also take away. The display has always been the component with the highest power draw. We’ve seen that with MBP. And we expect a mini LED panel for the upcoming MBA.
