What are the burn speeds for the Combo Drives and SuperDrives? Is it the same for all Macs? If not, then anyone able to list burn speeds, or link to them?

SOme are 4x in the mac mini's for instance but most burn at 8x and the new powermac's are dual layer

ShadOW

For Mac Mini Combo Drive:

reads CDs at up to 24x speed
writes CD-R discs at up to 24x speed
writes CD-RW discs at up to 16x speed

reads DVDs at up to 8x speed

Superdrive:

reads CDs at up to 24x speed
writes CD-R discs at up to 16x speed
writes CD-RW discs at up to 8x speed
reads DVDs at up to 8x speed
writes DVD-R discs at up to 4x speed
writes DVD-RW discs at up to 2x speed
writes DVD+R discs at up to 4x speed
writes DVD+RW discs at up to 2.4x speed

the specs are all lies, time it with a stopwatch for yourself, I'd be interested to hear how close to the posted specs you get.

And if you add on the 'lead in', 'lead out/finishing' and for a laugh, mounting, verification and ejecting it gets even more silly.

Each of these bits doesn't take too long, but when you've been given the task of burning 200 dvds worth of data overnight, and you think that from the specs it wont be a problem, trust me, these little bits all add up!

The burn speed on my 20" imac G5....as slow as you could possibly imagine.
I get a max of 2x no matter what media I use.

Thats very odd i am sure the iMac's all shipped with at least 4x if not 8x superdrives???
