Can the iPhone 3GS go pass 640x480? Because I'm ripping my DVDs and their resolutions are 720x480 and I don't wanna downgrade the quality so I'm just wondering if the 3GS can playback 720x480.

the iphones total screen dimensions are 320x480. i dont know how it will work. if you put it in itunes, itunes will probably say its too large to put on the device....and you will probably have to use some kind of converter such as handbrake on a mac.

Apple lists the maximum video playback specs here but they are underestimating it (iTunes movies/TV shows all have higher resolutions than the listed video playback max for the iPhone but they all play fine.)

720x480 will work fine on your iPhone without needed to convert them again.
