Hi, I cannot find the information as so far people posted the speeds of the 256GB and 512GB SSD configurations.

I have the base mini with 32GB and 1TB and the SSD speeds are around 3000 r/w

EDIT: Added speed tests I just executed. Oddly, it's got faster the more full it gets.

Thanks. That does not seem to be much faster than the 256 and 512GB configurations.
So if I go for M4 Mini, 256 or 512GB would be the one to choose.
If I go for M4 Pro Mini, getting a 1TB version would be faster and thus more worthy?

10+ years ago I already used Mac with 16GB memory and 1TB SSD.
It's not faster as the M4 uses 2x NAND.

The M4 Pro uses 4x NAND or more depending on capacity.

TLDR; All the M4-Pro SSDs are roughly twice as fast as all the M4 SSDs. Capacity has almost no bearing on speed on M4 MacMinis.

This is different from previous generations of MacMini and MacBook SSDs.

Thanks. Excellent summary! Apple changes strategy on the SSD every year.

I think 1TB SSD in M4 Pro Mini and MacBook Pro 16" are faster than TB5 external SSD?

In Intel Mac era, I either had a dual boot Mac-Windows or triple boot Mac-Windows-Linux system on a 1TB internal SSD. If I want to do the same thing via Parallels on Silicon Mac, I wonder if keeping that SSD capacity at 1TB is better than going for 512GB + external SSD. Probably even better to do that if I go for a MacBook Pro rather than a Mini as it could be a hassle to carry an external drive around.

Same as my M3 iMac. The external 4TB Thunderbolt SSD that I use now is theoretically faster than the ones in the Pro, if you got the right enclosure and also cheaper than the upgrade to 1TB.

Edit: I only saw the first picture. In Blackmagic it's only 3.000 for my internal one. But the external one can get up to 7.600 or so.

I just prefer internal storage ... I don't do anything that needs the really fast speeds. My mini replaced a 2014 iMac :)

And I have a 16" MBP M3 Max for anything too strenuous

Currently which is the best Thunderbolt 4 NVMe SSD enclosure? Two years ago, it was ACASIS's. I see they have released several enclosures along with OWC's Express 1M2. Is Samsung 990 Pro the best in the market? Can't find any PCIe Gen 5 NVMe SSD yet.
