What are these disk simulators?

I just noticed in Disk Utility I have a bunch of iOS disk simulator images - about 50GB of space in total. What are they, and are they needed for something?

Those are from Xcode, to simulate running iOS on your Mac when developing and testing apps.

Hmm. I haven't done any development on the Apple platform, maybe I explored Xcode a little at one point - I can't remember. Did I inadvertently install these with something? Unless I missed it I don't see any Xcode platform/apps on my Mac...

There you are! Search around in ~/Library/Developer and /Library/Developer for stuff you should have removed as part of uninstalling Xcode.

Thank you for the tips @gilby101 ! I did have residue there. I was able to just eject/remove those images in disk utility, and they stayed away after a reboot yay.
