I have a somewhat worse for wear Apple Smart Keyboard, and a virtually brand new Apple Folio for a 2018 iPad 2018 11”, and I am wondering what the heck to do with them. I hadn’t thought to go through the hassle of selling them, as I doubt the plain folio has any value at this point, and the ASK is definitely not as new, although it is perfectly functional aside from some wear and tear.

I think I might sell mine once my MKF arrives. My Smart Keyboard Folio for the 12.9 iPad Pro has very noticeable wear and tear but as these go for $200 new I'm sure someone will be willing to buy this off of me if I provide them with a generous discount since it still works perfectly. I'm also going to sell my Logitech Slim Folio Pro keyboard which actually has no wear and wear and works perfectly as well.

Mine will be used for travel light modes. I’m also unsure on whether or not I should return/exchange mine or just apple care it in the future (bubbles and dents).

If anyone’s feeling generous I’m in the market for SKF and I am one cheap SOB. 😁 (But seriously I do have a few PayPal dollars to part with for one in not--too-gross shape...)

EDIT: I got a couple of replies from some kind souls and realized I forgot to specify I’ve got a 2020 iPP with the stupid square camera bump, so it’s not compatible with the 2018 SKF.

Still interested if anyone’s got a redundant 2020 SKF kicking around but... I won’t hold my breath. ;)

If anyone is interested in a 2018 11” SKF that is definitely not new, but is perfectly functional, please DM me. I also have a non-keyboard folio for a 2018 iPP that is near mint if you just need a cover and no keyboard :)

I’ll keep and use the folio cover for my 12.9” when I know I’ll be using my device primarily for note taking with the Apple Pencil during a trip, seeing as the MK doesn’t lend itself well for that use.

I won’t be travelling with both cases, I want to avoid that. For my use of the iPad, a trip will usually dictate whether I’ll be typing or note taking so travelling with 1 case/cover only will work for me.

I've using my MK more as a docking station in my office now that you can connect the usb-c to the keyboard, times when iPad isn't connected i'm watching movies / TV / Reading and the original Apple Smart Keyboard is downstairs IF i need to type something up.

I bought the Smart Keyboard Folio from Target a couple days ago (typing on it now) and this thing is pretty neat. I love the fact is just “magically” works and it acts as a case/cover for the iPad as well. I might one day spring for the Magic Keyboard but I do have a general question.... Just how durable is the Smart Keyboard Folio? To me it seems like a pretty well made product as I’d expect from Apple but what is all you veteran users’ experience with it?

My experience was that the SKF was durable (I’ve never been worried it was going to fall apart or stop working), but that it got to be fairly ratty looking. It didn’t take too long before the material on the outside of the folio started to wrinkle/bubble, and 1.5 years on, it’s started to flake away in spots. And I always transported it in a pouch, so it wasn’t treated roughly. I think it will continue to work for a good amount of time, but it may not stay in what you’d consider nice shape.

This is exactly my experience, to a tee - the outside is wrinkled, bubbled and now peeling. Interestingly perhaps, inside it’s still looking good as new apart from the letters wearing off on two of the keys.

Wonder why Apple continues to use this material? Since they have used it for a long time they must for some reason like it.

Just a guess, but given the better than average life expectancy of the iPad Pro, maybe this is a way of reintroducing some planned obsolescence into their product line...? 🤷‍♂️

I’ll probably sell mine for a big discount if I do get the keyboard.

Wear and tear, but it’s so expensive to just leave it gathering dust...
