So what are your favorite mac freeware apps?
Here are some of mine!

SketchBox
Transmission
Quinn
Handbrake
Cooliris
Caffeine
UnRarX
Adium
Senuti
Jing
Flock

Cyberduck, Adium, Transmission, and VLC. I use all of them regularly.

Honestly, I think I only have one app that isn't freeware, BBEdit, and my work paid for it. The Open Source community has really provided some great stuff. Just to list some apps:
  • Firefox
  • Gimp
  • OpenOffice/NeoOffice
  • CLIX
  • Cyberduck
  • TextWrangler
  • Smultron
  • TrueCrypt
  • ViewIt
  • MAMP

There are a lot of free apps that I use, by my favorites are:

Handbrake
Cyberduck
Audacity
VLC - the best
MPEG Streamclip
MetaX
Boxee on my Apple TV

VLC - Media Player. Only use it when watching numerous shows/movies back to back since quicktime doesn't support playlists. Otherwise I use Quicktime with...
Perian - Codec which allows Quicktime to play as many different media formats as VLC.
Trailrunner - Route planning freeware. I use it to find and plan biking and running routes. Can also import routes other people have created. Very fun (once you step back from the mac and go outside ;) )
Adium - Chatting.
Transmission - My favourite Torrent client. Very simple to use, and yet very powerful.

Evernote - indispensable
HandBrake - handy, to say the least ;)
Visual Hub - gone, but still lives on my machine and still perfect
Inkscape - I now use Illustrator, but this is a kick ass free alternative. :)
MetaX - moo!(vie) meta data
Transmission - simple, works :apple:
Skitch - fun and powerful screen capture tool :p
Quicksilver - using less and less
