What are your New Penryn Macbook TEMPS?

Really interested in knowing how the new macbook can handle heat. I ran a test on the non penryn 2.2 macbook. I first tested idle fan speed which was 1800rpms. Then I ran a 1080HD trailer on loop and the fan immediately jumped to 6250rpms and stayed there.

All this was done using istat pro widget.

So what can the new Penryn macbook handle??

I want to say that this type of stress on the processor is a problem with OS X, not the hardware. I could be wrong, but this problem has always existed.

I don't think so. I think it was just a problem with the core 2 duo at 800mhz bus. I never seen this problem before. Sure it goes high if you load it up but never from watching youtube or using ichat video.

No, he's right; this is a known problem with OS X, and one independent of processor choice. All Macs react adversely to flash in comparison to their Windows counterparts; it's a software flaw, not a hardware one. akonradi is correct.

Well my mac mini doesn't do it. I look at flash all day long.

Heat is a result of BOTH hardware and software. How they are configured together determines the outcome.

Would someone that has a 2.4 Ghz MacBook please tell us your idle temperature and your temperature after letting an extremely processor intensive app run for a few minutes? Running "yes" in the terminal will also suffice.

Flash does cause an increase in Mac fan speed.

The two images show how the CPU increases rapidly when there's a flash video playing.

Mac OS X seems to lend more importance to CPU percentage than to the actual temp of the computer when deciding what to do with the fans.

(This was done on my Late 2007 Santa Rosa 2.0GHz MacBook with 4GB RAM).

Thanks for the pics. My point was that the SR meroms do that, not the new ones ore the older core duos. My original macbook never did that but my SR merom did like crazy. I was saying it wasn't the OS entirely.

Well went to the apple store today to check temps. Man, no different. The penryn runs NO cooler. Fan speed is still an issue.

On a simple test of playing in a loop an HD 1080 trailer here is what I found

Macbook: immediately hit 79c and fans spun up to 6200rpm

Mabook pro: 79c and fans hit 5400rpm but came back down to 4300rpm and stayed there.

Macbook air: 79c fans spun up to an amazing 6500rpm but here is what was interesting, the fans stayed at 6500rpm after I closed the video and cpu went back town to 59. Fans never came back down while I was there for 36minutes.

Now you say its normal? Maybe for 2008 macs but I have a mac mini that I upgraded and while running an HD 1080 video and ichat and surfing my temp is 58c and fans are spinning at 3188rpm top end.

Also to note

- Both macbook and macbook pro played video fine but macbook air went completely unresponsive and video was super stuttering.

- The test of the ichat camera on all 3 yielded the following results. The macbook pro had the best clearest camera. THe macbook was clear but a little fuzzy and the macbook air's camera was absolutely horrible. Blurry and distorted. I tried 3 macbook airs and all had the same crappy camera.

So there you have it. Fans aplenty. They NEVER shut off. Macbook at idle was 1800rpm, macbook pro at idle was 2000rpm and macbook air at idle was 2500rpm. My mac mini is 1500rpm at idle. My original macbook first release black fans don't come on at idle.
