Hi everyone, I have 2 Xserves with three 80 GB SATA ADMs in each. I want to replace these 80 GB drives with something in the 500 - 1 TB range, but I don't want to pay the $449 premium for new ADM sleds and all at apple.com.
What brand and model hard drive does apple use for these ADMs? Is there a custom firmware on them? I know the 80 GB drives are Maxtor Diamondmax 10s.
I have read in other forums that when someone replaced those drives with the Seagate Barracuda ES line, the yellow light indicating drive trouble would come on, but then he put the drive in another mac and checked the SMART status and it was ok.
Does anyone else have any experience with using different drives in these sleds?
