Hi all and thanks in advance for your answers.

This may seem like a dumb question but I'm not too technically inclined.

So I have this MBP, late 2011, with these specs

Model Name: MacBook Pro
Model Identifier: MacBookPro8,1
Processor Name: Intel Core i5
Processor Speed: 2.4 GHz
Number of Processors: 1
Total Number of Cores: 2
L2 Cache (per Core): 256 KB
L3 Cache: 3 MB
Memory: 4 GB
Boot ROM Version: MBP81.0047.B27
SMC Version (system): 1.68f98
Serial Number (system): C02H6J2CDV1
Hardware UUID: F2004EA4-ACFD-5C4B-B4C2-173F4BCE5F91

I recently bought this TV: http://www.samsung.com/ca/consumer/tv-video/tv/lcd/LN40D550K1FXZC-spec

I'd like to know what cable I need to buy in order to be able to watch movies or stream TV shows directly from my MBP to the TV.

Thanks !

Mini-DisplayPort to HDMI cable

or

Mini-DisplayPort to HDMI adapter + HDMI-HDMI cable

Thanks for your answer! What's the difference ? How do I know which one I need?

They are the same. Buy whatever you find or is cheaper. The easiest adapter to find in stores is the Moshi mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter. Buy any HDMI cable to plug into it if you don't have one already.

If you want to save and don't mind ordering online you can also get this cable from monoprice. Both qualities will be the same.

The monoprice cable will work. They have cables of varying lengths also.
In case you want a shorter cable.

Edit that. The linked monoprice cable does not support audio.

Get the one from apple. It may be more expensive but it supports audio.

there are many aftermarket or oem cables from ebay or amazon. but make sure that cable supports audio. READ REVIEWS if you buy from amazon.
