It is a recently purchased LG TV, and the latest Macbook Pro bought in July.

It would help if you could post some links from the Apple website or whatever, thanks:)

Will the Moshi Mini DP to HDMI Adapter carry audio through?
thanks.

I think so:

Moshi Mini DP to HDMI Adapter with Audio Support
Moshi's compact and stylish Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter seamlessly connects DisplayPort-equipped MacBook, MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, iMac, Mac mini or Mac Pro systems to any HDMI display. It supports both video and audio* output to your HDMI display.

Supports full HD display at 1080p (1920 x 1080)
Supports HDMI audio pass-through for select systems*
Aluminum casing minimizes EM interference
Compact design allows unobstructed adjacent port access

...

Note: *Audio support is only available for MacBook Pro 13/15/17-in. mid-2010 release; iMac 21.5/27-in. early-2010 release

That's what it says on the Apple Online Store page I linked to.

Try Best Buy Too

I just got a Mini DP to HDMI adaptor from Best Buy made by Dynex, Best Buy's brand, and it works brilliant. Supports audio as well. And it's $19.99.
