ok, so i know iOS software development is all the rage now, but i was wondering what a hardware guy could do with a Mac. is it possible to make hardware devices as a small project? i'd love to do something like this as a side project after work. keep in mind i'm only recently getting back into the Mac-universe so i don't know what's being done at the moment.

i'd appreciate any help.

thanks

Arduino?

I'm not sure if this is the kind of thing you mean but the Arduino devices can be connected and used via any Mac with a USB Port. The programming software works fine in Mac OS X (as well as Windows and Linux)
