I dropped my watch 5 and the screen cracked. I'm still wearing it to track my runs, but I need to replace it soonish.

Apple quotes $300 to repair it, but I wouldn't call that a legitmate option, given that you can buy a brand new one for less.

I looked at their trade-in program, and for a watch with a crack on it, it says they'll "recycle it for free, which is a big win for the planet." Congrats Earth!

Is there anything I can do with it that's better than throwing it into the trash?

Sell it on your local classifieds? You might find that someone will purchase it for parts.

Depending on how bad the crack is, you might try putting a screen protector on it & continue to use it that way. Obviously the waterproofing, etc won't be as good as new, but if it's not worth fixing, you might be able to extend the lifespan until the newer watches come out.

Screens for Apple Watches are very expensive from 3rd party suppliers ($250 and up) so I’d say $300 is what any repair would cost.. Apple would most likely give you a replacement device which would come with new battery, case, etc.. It’s cheaper to find a watch that has issues other than the display and use the good screen for your device..

I repaired an older watch glass on ebay before for less than 100
