lets say i am trying to browse and preview through a list of items on my desktop.

i land on an image and i press the spacebar button to get a preview of the image, ok everything looks great, i then press the spacebar again to release the image and it is at this point every single time without fail that if i try to do another action such as click on another item on the desktop or another file or drag anything that there will be some sort of freeze/lag and the color wheel will pop up.

i am doing a simple action of browsing items on my desktop this is not resource intensive i havent a clue why such simple tasks are causing my computer to freeze for those few seconds. and like i said i know exactly what to do to produce this behavior and every single time it does this

why?

I could reproduce this many times when using the previous version of TotalFinder, once I updated, it disappeared. But then I started to notice some other issues and completely removed TF.
I'm not saying that would be the only reason for you, don't even know if you are using any Finder plugin.

Did you try a fresh install?
