Recently got a rMBP and my Dad asked if he could have my old one (he's running a Sony from the early 00s) and I have no problem letting him have it. I just at least want to give him something worth using.

Right now he's planning on buying a new TV over a new computer for those wondering why not just buy something "newer".

I was thinking of just maybe having an SSD bootup drive and then get him a larger harddrive to replace the CD drive.

I'm already maxed out on RAM (3gb)

I mean other than that is there anything I can do? And would this duel SSD + HD give a significant increase in speed?

He mainly dose web surfing and photography and from my experience I was able to run LightRoom and Photoshop with no problem. I mean yeah sure it was slugish at times but it got the job done.
