I'm buying my Macbook in less than 2 weeks... I'm buying it along with an iPod video with it, so I won't have enough money for RAM until the $180 rebate comes in (how long does that take by the way?). Is 512MB of RAM enough to run just Safari, iTunes and Adium? I'll try not to do anything intensive until I get the 2GB RAM upgrade.

In theory, it should be enough. However, I got my Macbook about a week before I got my 2 GB ram and it was a complete struggle in that one week. Even running, as you said iTunes, Adium, and Safari, it lagged. You will be able to get by if it's just temporary but I don't recommend anyone sticking with 512 MB for good.

Yes, it's fine. To run basic apps, 512 is enough to get by.
Upgrading is definitely a good idea though, once you have the money :).
