Would love to see what y’all are getting. Debating between the keyboard folio or non-keyboard folio.

Both folios, but I may return the keyboard folio.

I'm sure all the usual 3rd party case makers will introduce their offerings in the coming days. Certainly will need something to protect the little fellow.

I bought the non-keyboard folio for the following reasons:
  • The keys aren't crisp—rather smushy, actually
  • It never felt balanced on my lap and was top heavy
  • It's not fully adjustable
  • The software integration isn't what it could be, such as no way to activate the home button, can't start typing to search on home screen, or to even open a new tab and start typing doesn't work. You have to hit a bunch of extra shortcut keys. It's not very useful for text editing without some kind of a basic trackpad to move the cursor around.
  • I didn't find a lot of situations where I needed to use it and can use my pencil to write notes
  • Despite not using it much, it came apart at the seams around the edge. I'm always very careful with my devices, and Apple sent me a free replacement. But I don't have high hopes that the new one is going to last for my wife's moderate to heavy usage after she gets it, even though I haven't really used the new keyboard aside from making sure it worked.
  • $200 is pretty insane considering you can get a 2018 iPad for not much more. Not worth the money given all my gripes above.
Apple has somewhat addressed my concerns by adding two adjustable angles and adjusting the design to be more stable. And they addressed two things that I didn't mention above since it was completely fixed, such as removing the weird keyboard hump, making the magnets more secure, and providing back coverage for better protection. But it's still not enough to get me to buy another one. However, some kind of basic trackpad support might sway me, along with improved software support for the keyboard. A mouse on iOS would be kinda weird, and I've tried it before with Jailbreaking a long time ago and it is pretty weird, but they just need something for moving cursors around while editing text. Even if it's some kind of a touch sensitive spacebar that you have to hold down another key to use.

...with a Smart folio. No screenprotector. Been using this strategy on my iPad Pro’s 12.9’s and 10.5’s with great succes for over a year.

The weight of the gel case is negligible, and the Smart folio stays off when not needed. A screenprotector ruins the ultra-low reflectance factor of the iPad screen in bright sunlight.

No plans to use the new Apple Pencil?

That is an issue i am seeing with this first batch of cases on Amazon, etc...not compatible with charging the Pencil.

I bough this one before they ran out of black.

Also got the Apple Folio. Can’t tell a difference between the two, of course not having the iPad yet. Hopefully the magnets will be just as strong as the OEM. If so, I will return the Apple Folio. Not a fan of the gray color.

I always hate doing the case shopping... I want a minimal case with more options on stand positions.... I also would like a pretty color maybe rose gold to match my watch and phone etc.... or no case and a stand, with a sleeve???

I just want a simple cover for the screen, ideally leather, like the previous generation Smart Cover. I fear the new iPad Pro magnet arrangement (in the back, rather than down the side) will make such a case difficult, if not impossible.

Just the SmartFolio. I've always used SmartCovers since iPad 2 days, but I don't see SmartCovers this time, so it's the folio.

While the keyboard looks cool, I don't want it on all the time and I don't like that it has keys in front if I want to fold it behind to watch a movie. So I'll probably just use a bluetooth keyboard if I need to do a ton of typing. I have a Magic Keyboard and an Anker bt keyboard that'll work just fine.

My (original) 12.9 Smart Keyboard (recently replaced by Apple with a new one) is one of my favorite keyboards ever--ranking right up there with (my memory of) the keyboard on my Pismo Powerbook. So of course I ordered the new keyboard folio. I just can't function as well without the convenience of this keyboard as a large part of my workflow involves writing. I love that it now covers the back. (I'm now using the Apple silicone back cover, which they discontinued.)

Not a cover, but for drawing at my work table, I'm going to use the Elevation Lab DraftTable stand, which I just got last week. What an amazing product--so well made.

I got the esr case though I might have to make some modifications to accommodate the pencil, I'll see once the iPad is in hand

I always order 3rd party cases from Amazon for my iPads. Usually cost less than $20. But be careful, i’ve Been reading a lot of 3rd party cases available now for the new 11” & 12.9” iPad Pros block the new Apple Pencil from being charged.

I'm really not happy about Apple not having a Smart Cover. I trust the quality and fitment of Apple products. Not to say the aftermarket products aren't good/sometimes better but I"m confident Apple products fit their devices without me having to read a bunch of threads for feedback.

With that said, I guess I'll end up with a clear back cover like I have on my 10.5" iPad Pro and a non-keyboard cover to product the screen. My iPad leaves the house with me everyday. I won't even think about taking it out without protection.

I am going with the following at launch:

1. Ztotop iPad Pro 12.9 Case (exact knockoff to the apple smart folio) (in hand) https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07J4K6ZK6/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

2. Apple Smart Folio in Charcoal (will buy tomorrow)

3. Apple Smart Keyboard Folio (will buy tomorrow)

I hope the Ztotop proves to line up correctly with the camera and magnets. Would love to keep the $25 case. Jury is still out if I will keep the keyboard. May end up returning it and waiting for a sale during the holidays or eBay sale later this year or early next year. $200 will be weighing on my mind...

I'm thinking I'm going to do smart folio and/or 3rd party case and when I need a keyboard I will hook up wired to a small mechanical keyboard.
