What causes my screensaver to not go on?

I noticed that after playing Minecraft sometimes, my screensaver would not go on (my display won't even dim either, like it does before the screensaver) if I let my computer sit for a while. I haven't played Minecraft in a while, and this problem still keeps happening. It happened yesterday, and again today.

I'm confused as to what is doing this, and how to fix it aside from rebooting my computer.

Maybe Minecraft does something to the driver. Try logging out and back in to fix if you don't want to restart. I have to do this with a few games in Windows if I happen to be running beta or faulty video drivers.

Is there a way to update or fix this driver? I haven't run Minecraft in a while and I'm still getting this problem

Restart. No way to update drivers. Apple bundles them with .1 patches.
