What compromises would you accept to have a retina Mini today, assuming someone could actually make 2048x1536 7.9" screens?

Same form factor, Retina, 2 ½ hour battery life? 0.45" thick, 1.28 lbs, Retina, 10 hour battery? Price?

Where would you draw the line?

The size is staying so that's not changing. I'd draw the line at weight. The thickness will increase because of a higher capacity battery.

The iPhone 5 has a retina screen and they found a way to make it lighter

I'm sure apple can find a way to do it add retina & keep the same weight

A retina screen isn't any big deal for me. Have one on my iPod touch 5; don't have one on my iPad 2. Don't see that much of a difference between the two and neither have caused headaches, eye strain, tears, blurred vision, etc., etc.

While I don't plan to buy a mini for myself, I will be ordering one for a Christmas gift. And I'm certain the recipient will be delighted with it in its present form.

Exactly. If they can do it in the iPhone 5, they can do it in the iPad mini 2. They have $100 billion in cash for a reason. Use it.

I'd accept no compromises.

Precisely. No compromises. Steve Jobs wouldn't have allowed for any when he was still alive. We shouldn't expect any thing less.

To clarify, I am talking about today, not the Mini 2 at some point in the future. The current Mini would not be possible with a retina screen, so some compromise would have to be made.

I absolutely wouldn't accept any reduction in battery life, I'd also be hesitant to see any increase in weight since I just got rid of my 3 for that reason.

No compromises. They could have done it if they didn't keep telling us there was no market for a 7in tablet. All that time they spent telling us that, they could have been working on the iPad mini 1 retina display.

We live in the real world where there actually are technological limitations, not fantasy land. Do you think they wanted the iPad 3/4 the way it is?

I would've paid as much as $500 bucks for a 16gig retina display iPad mini. Size is the issue not price. I suspect Apple know this but couldnt get the technology to market quickly enough.

Nothing. Screw retina. It's all bunk anyway. Like the Blue Ray slobbers of years gone by.

What I want is battery. Take those resources and start developing battery technologies. Get 10, 15, 20 hours out of a charge, that'll be sweet.

No compromise, in size, battery, weight or cost, I'm quite happy with the overall package, a higher resolution screen might be nice but it doesn't stop me browsing or reading on the Mini.

I lay in bed reading a book with the Google Play Books app last night, it was perfectly legible, and I didn't feel any eye strain whatsoever doing it.

No mini, invest all the money in a higher capacity iPhone 5 and a longer lasting battery.
Apple carrier, no more At&t bs.

Nothing. The screen is great. I hate the heat, weight, and thickness compromises in the iPad 3 and 4 as compared to the 2.

I'd happily accept a third of the battery life. Yes, that's 1/3. I want to be able to enjoy using it, even if I can only use it two hours without recharging it.

Yep, me too. I wish people would stop equating small with cheap. Everything is geared this way; want a small car? then you must want a cheap car. 11 inch Air? you obviously wanted the 13 inch but couldn't afford it. Does my head in.
