I got 16Gb 1Tb as that is the minimum I want for my usage - in space grey.

Purchased the base 8/256 model in Starlight as I don't do heavy lifting on my laptop. Perfect so far.
Same, Starlight looks gorgeous, still not sure about the fuss over midnight, says mid/low Windows laptop to me - Sony Vaio, Asus Zenbook, HP Pavilion etc

I got the 16/1T in midnight to replace my 14” M1 Pro machine. I never quite groked the M1 Pro and the 15” air feels so much better.

I love the Midnight but it always looks greasy and I use my laptop for watching TV so I definitely needed something that didn't look so dirty.

I ordered the Midnight, 24/1TB. For the last 5-7 years I have primarily used iPad Pro’s as my main computer aside from a work Windows laptop. I am beyond past trying to act like an iPad can replace an actual computer. This will be my newest MacBook since the MacBook Pro 13” I have that was purchased around approximately 2009-2010.

Silver 24/512. Very excited to come back to Mac after using this PC (which also servers as a space heater) for so long.

I went with the 16/1tb in Midnight. I've never had a dark colored computer before. I always went with white or silver. This time, the blue color just called to me. I really like it so far. Anyway, my old iMac, which this is replacing was 1TB so I didn't want to have less than that. The 16gb was just a little upgrade for me, hopefully to future proof it for a little while.

I wasn't planning on "upgrading" from 14" MacBook Pro at all for a few more years but then Apple just had to drop this one device I was waiting for for such a long time.

So I went all out. 24GB/2TB. I need the extra RAM for photo editing and the occasional virtual machines. Storage is similarly mostly for photos (I have terabytes worth of photos), but also for virtual machines for my coding projects.

Got the machine. Quickly confirmed it's exactly what I was hoping and I've been very happy. Will probably not buy another MacBook until Apple introduces a much better display in the Air at the very least.

Although the numbers are limited, but it's interesting that the most popular model so far is the 16/1. And, that the base model and the “max” model (24GB) are tied for second place.

Together, the base and highest end combine for one more than the 16/1 option.

Shows how diverse we all are…

I think it's quite clear many others are thinking the same way that I do: get this now and then just sit with it until the next major redesign.

It makes sense for me. I don't need faster chip. The MacBook is already opening my apps up a lot faster than my older computers that are still working just fine. I just wanted something with more screen real estate and lighter weight. Apple delivered. So now anything else is just icing on the cake, and certainly a faster chip for the following 3-4 years won't interest me or some others so much.

What's odd is that the 16/1TB config was available for launch-day delivery longer than 16/512 or 16/2TB. But perhaps Apple knew it would be more popular and allocated more supply...or it's just a sampling issue.

I agree. I spec’ed up to 16/512 for that very reason: any updates to the lineup are likely going to be relatively minor, so might as well get a good config and use it for a while.
