I just replaced my Apple 24" LED that was running on my older Mac Pro via a Gefen dvi/miniport display convereter with a new Apple 27" LED.
Unfortunately the Gefen doesn't work with the 27"

Anyone know a solution?

Thanks!

Instead of buying an adapter for 150$, I spent $100 more and grabbed the 5770 card from apple.com. It smokes the 2600HD I had in my Pro, and has 2 mini-displayports and 1 DVI port.

Not sure the card will work in my 3.5 year old Mac Pro 2.66

In the US store a few user comments are claiming the "NVIDIA GeForce GT 120 Graphics Upgrade Kit for Mac Pro (early 2009)" will work with an early 2008 MacPro 3,1.

I am looking at the same card for my MP. Still haven't convinced myself to go for the matching display... the 27" one I mean ;)

The HD5770 should also work with the 3,1. Check Barefeats for that. It's 250 Euros in Europe..

Your post got me googling.
Word on the street is that the GT120 is similar to a 9500GT and apparently it is not as good as the 8800GT that I am using now.

So it looks I would need to save up for little more to get the HD5770.

It does work.

Cable of the 27" display is short though. With the Display on the table and the Mac Pro on the floor, the connector just about reaches the Mac, but only when the Mac is exactly below the display.

I have ordered an extension cable, hoping it arrives soon, it is not very comfortable to work like this.

MP with ATI 4870 & 27" display

I have an MP (2006) model with the ATI 4870 card from Apple. It has the display port connector and works great with the 27" display.
