So officially I am meant to use our work-issued iPad to access my company email account, through the Outlook app (not the native Mail app).

But we can also access on a Windows PC (Edge) by going to outlook.office365.com and signing in.

But when you try that on a Mac (Edge) it says:

Your sign-in was successful, but does not meet the criteria to access this resource. For example, you might be signing in from a browser, app or location that is restricted by your admin.

It's not really a big deal but why would this be?

It’s possible for your employer’s organization to apply many types of restrictions. The most plausible one that came to me was a limitation based on the user-agent, which sends identification of OS/platform, Web browser, browser version, and so forth to the server.

In more technical speak...
Why they would feel a need to block macOS while allowing iPadOS isn’t obvious.
