I'm an international student here, so I don't have a SSN. is there any way that I could get an iphone here? are there any other documents could replace SSN?

thanks in advance!

No, because you need a credit check ... if you don't have a SSN it's very likely you have no credit.

but I have a citi credit card, I dont know if that counts for credit

You need a SSN for a credit check. If you don't have a SSN, then they cannot perform a credit check - hence a "pay as you go" phone is in order.

I don't think AT&T is making that available for the iPhone right now, so you will probably have to give them a downpayment. Call the nearest store to find out what they will want.

Do you have a taxpayer id number? Basically anything that proves you are who you say you are should work...but you need something more than a license. Call AT&T and ask them what they'll accept, and work it out AHEAD of friday.
