so I’m thinking of getting an iMac. I’d like to keep the box for future moves and for resale eventually, but it is kind of big. So I was wondering if you guys have clever ideas to repurpose it. If it stays just empty, it’s a huge waste of space, but I’d like to keep it if it can be functional and useful.

If you get an iMac, talk to the associate and tell them you also want the shipping box. It’s a thick brown cardboard box. If you have to move or ship it, it’s perfect.

.

I used it to return my faulty iMac back to Apple.

I personally would have recycled it if I didn't need to use it to return my old iMac. I don't like to keep used product packaging in my house.

I was thinking about this yesterday. When I get my iMac I’m going to leave the box in my room for a few days then I’m going to move it to the indoor balcony that we use to store things.

Definitely worth keeping if you ever need to take the thing in for service. Also, when you go to sell it, having the original box really does make a better impression on potential buyers.

The one and only real drawback to Apple's refurbished Macs is that they come with a very plain white box instead of the nicer one the new ones come with.

I have three iMac's and have all three boxes. If I need service I use the box to carry the iMac.

To my wife's dismay I keep all my boxes for Apple stuff I purchase. Especially Apple stuff because their boxes are part of the allure. I eventually sell all my old gear when I replace them. I found when I advertise that I have the original box when listing on eBay it's usually helps the item sell faster.

Oddly, I just got rid of my box a few months ago. My warranty expired on my iMac, and I'll be keeping it till it dies, so, box disposed of...

i attached mine to a drone, set the drone for the heart of the sun, one of these days the box will obscured by clouds!

Well, that was A Momentary Lapse of Reason - I mean, what happens if you need to Take It Back - or get A New Machine and want to sell the old one to get some Money - but the box has gone to the Great Gig in the Sky or collided with a Pig on the Wing?

Currently boxes live on Apple Mountain, but space is running out so not sure...

Maybe Advanced Heroquest would need to make the ultimate sacrifice!
