Seriously considering getting a new iMac right now. A friend of mine has an ultimate 27", but I really feel like he doesn't need half of it for what he does.

I am in the same boat and do about the same. I use mine to stream videos to my iPad (within the house), light gaming (I love portal 2 and the like; but maybe plan on picking up modern warfare 3 later this year), HTPC stuff like run 1080p rips to my HDTV/stereo, light photo and video editing, plus obvious stuff like web browsing, iphoto, itunes, etc.

That's about it.

I plan on upgrading to at least 12 (if not 16) gb of ram, as well.

Will the low end handle most of this fairly well, or should I go with the high end (but not ultimate) instead? I would love to save those $300 or so dollars.

IMHO i think that what your gonna get is still overkill

Heh, I thought of that as well, but I really want the 27, so there is no smaller option. Plus, ram is dirt cheap so why not.

But you think that it will run games well enough? That would be the only thing I can see it acting weird on, I guess.
