Im using my MBP for light recording/mixing, Word stuff, and internet surfing (NO porn, though). What kind of stuff do I need to do to keep my Mac in tip-top shape? I clean Safari's cookies and reset it every now and then, run Disk Utility, and just got Onyx. Would appreciate suggestions!

OS X automatically takes care of the hard drive and other things. You can manually invoke these maintenance tasks with Onyx, though it will be fine by itself.

Just leave a good amount of hard disk space (at least 2-3GB), and you will be all set.

Good luck with your recordings. Macs can handle porn, spyware and ms viruses without any problems whatsoever. Have fun!:)

Haha, I dunno really. I used to have two roommates that would look at porn all day on their PC and I thought it was really impressive just how much it slowed down their computer. THanks for the feedback!

So to get back on track with the thread... I dont have to run any virus scanner, adware scanner, or disk defrag... its all done automatically? - when and how often?

You don't have to worry much about viruses when using a Mac.

They just...aren't out there. Not to say there are no viruses for Macs..but there just aren't too many. Go ahead and install a Mac ported virus scanner, but I wouldn't worry about it much. As long as you don't do really heinous stuff, like browsing pron sites, your risk of getting a virus is slim to none. imo

heinous |?h?n?s|
adjective
(of a person or wrongful act, esp. a crime) utterly odious or wicked : a battery of heinous crimes.

I cannot believe I'm that evil. Apparently.

I think people have misused the word heinous after Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure.

Who are we to judge, anyway?
