sorry but i have a question that may seem stupid but ya...
i downloaded firefox and have it up and running, so what do i do with the driver icon that shows up on the desktop? do i trash it? put it in apps?
also for frostwire?

this is not a "driver" icon, it's a mounted disk image.

applications such as firefox come packaged within a disk image. so you'll download a *.dmg file and 'mount' it by opening the dmg file. the image will show up on your desktop just like an external hard drive. you need to then remove the contents of the disk image and put it on your computer, then enject the image just like you would a cd, dvd external drive, etc... (drag it to the trash)
