Three questions:

1) When Garageband 2 comes out I would like to be able to record at least 4 tracks at a time. What is the cheapest hardware I can buy to do this?

2) Is it better to mic an amp or to plug the guitar directly into the preamp device?

3) Is it possible to record audio and midi tracks at the same time, or will it be with GB2?

1. a fairly cheap and quality solution for recording 4 tracks would be this .

2. as far as recording a guitar, in my opinion you can't beat the sound of a miked amp. amp plug-ins sound terrible in comparison.

3. i think its possible to record audio and midi tracks at the same time but i am not sure.

It says right on the Apple GarageBand website that you can record real instruments along with MIDI ones at the same time.
